Basketball Training Session

This is a general outline for a basketball training session that can be adapted to different skill levels and areas of focus.

Warm-Up (10-15 minutes):

  • Light cardio: jogging, jumping jacks, high knees (to get the blood flowing and loosen up)

  • Dynamic stretches: lunges, arm circles, leg swings (to prepare muscles for movement)

  • Basketball specific drills: dribbling around cones, light shooting

Skill Development (30-45 minutes):

  • Focus on 2-3 specific skills you want to improve on. This could include:

    • Dribbling: different dribble moves (between the legs, behind the back), dribbling with both hands

    • Shooting: form shooting, free throws, shooting off the dribble

    • Passing: chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass, accuracy and speed

    • Footwork: agility drills, defensive stance, jumping drills

  • Each skill can be practiced with individual drills or with a partner.

  • Make sure to practice with both your dominant and non-dominant hand/foot.

Practice Scrimmage/Game (15-20 minutes):

  • Put the practiced skills to use in a scrimmage or light game.

  • This can be full-court or half-court, depending on the number of players.

  • Focus on applying what you learned in the skill development drills.

League Participation
